However You don't need to be a 'Hedge Fund Manager' to realise that 'things they are a changing' The 'credit crunch', the 'credit squeeze', inflation... 'stagflation'.... and gods forbid...... 'Recession'.!
Yes our lifestyles and economic well-being is under threat. Time for change? Or changes 'forced upon us'. Yet out of adversity we can find progress and creativity. We change accordingly and in many cases for the better. Add into the equation the 'need to be increasingly ''green'' and simply conscious of our actions on others and the earth itself.
So before i start to sound too pious, pompous and 'hair-shirted'... [just to remind You this is me writing this, the same person who would sell his very soul to 'Satan' for a crisp poplin cotton white shirt from PRADA..] there are some good things coming to the surface in this 'bankers from hell' mess in which we find ourselves.
Already we are all changing our 'lifestyles' and how we spend our ['shrinking'] salaries. Today i noticed that the current edition of Marie Claire magazine... yes 'lads' get in-touch with your 'feminine side', your girlfriend will be impressed!... is a 'green' special edition making 'eco' chic. One article echoed what i've been saying well since i began writing this column buy quality every time!
Buy cheap, buy twice! Do we ever stop to think the true cost of a cheap t-shirt from 'down the market'?
Me spending the the best part of a week's wages on that Prada white shirt in comparison with two for a tenner from George at Asda.[whoops! Or any other 'discount' outlets in the UK] not only provides me with my PRADA 'fix' but ensures that i know where it was made, the quality and integrity of the shirt and how over countless months and years the shirt will last i will become 'emotionally' attacted. Each wear will mean something, mark some occasion and improve my self-esteem and my relationship with clothes and their role in my existence.
