Primark? Topshop? H&M?....
So this week we learn Primark are the UK's leading supplier of 'budget' [read ''cheap''] clothing, pushing Asda & Tesco off the 'top' spots.
Add to that the 'child labour' claim by 'The Observer' newspaper against GAP and then the 'dilemma' of success for [one of my personal favorites] American Apparel [no 'sweatshop', made in downtown LA etc] and now considering the 'floatation' of the company and the implications for such an 'ethically' run organisation.
The 'catch 22' is simple [we] demand 'cheap' clothing then the likes of Primark will provide it. You 'get what You pay for' be it in a direct way or with 'hidden costs'.
As a lifelong 'follower of fahion' who would not hesitate to sell an 'organ' to ensure i could 'obtain' a pair of bespoke Kigour denims, i for one simply do not buy this 'buy cheap' ethos.
Believe me when i say i'm in debt to amounts i would have to go into therapy to admit to. [Thanks to the 'gorgeous' Lee at Renault my inheritance is destined to Renault Finance!] However when it comes to 'kit' be it jeans or otherwise I would live on bread & water for weeks before i would 'compromise' on quality and integrity.
As the saying goes 'Buy cheap, buy twice'! So don't! Think it through, think 'long term', not simply 'of now'! Seek out quality in every sense, purchase clothing and kit you'll grow to 'love' and cherish.
Quality will re-pay You 'threefold'.
After all there is nothing to equal an old pair of 'Gucci loafers'.....
